Justin K. York

Justin K. York is an attorney in Wicker Smith’s Orlando office, where his practice focuses on general liability matters, including automobile negligence, trucking, premises liability, and product liability. A Florida native, Justin brings more than a decade of experience spanning civil litigation, in-house insurance defense, and legislative and regulatory strategy.

Admitted to the Florida Bar in 2013, Justin began his legal career at a boutique appellate firm before transitioning into general civil litigation, where he handled a broad range of matters including premises liability, construction disputes, negligent security, landlord-tenant matters, HOA disputes, products liability, and class actions. He later established and managed an Orlando office for a national law firm, advising government clients—including Florida Clerks of Court and the Florida Turnpike Enterprise—on collections, compliance, and litigation risk.

From 2018 to 2020, Justin represented property insurers in first-party litigation, developing litigation and early-resolution strategies in complex coverage disputes. He then transitioned in-house with a major Florida-based property insurer, where he managed a litigation portfolio of more than 150 active matters, including cases involving significant indemnity exposure. He conducted early case assessments, directed litigation strategy through all phases of litigation, and worked closely with claims leadership to evaluate exposure, control defense costs, and mitigate bad faith risk.

Justin was later promoted to Senior Staff Counsel and then Legislative Attorney, where he advised executive leadership on multi-state legislative and regulatory developments affecting claims, underwriting, product design, and litigation exposure. In that role, he translated complex statutory and regulatory changes into practical implementation strategies across business units, aligning legal guidance with organizational and operational objectives.

Deeply committed to public service, Justin has served the City of Lake Mary since 2014, first as a Planning and Zoning Board Member (2014–2019) and currently as an elected City Commissioner (2019–present). He also served as Deputy Mayor from 2024 to 2025. His additional public service includes serving as Chairman of the Seminole Soil & Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors (January–November 2018) and as a District Supervisor (2015–2018). He has contributed to statewide policy efforts through the Florida League of Cities Legislative Policy Committees (Utilities, Natural Resources, and Public Works Committee (2020–2022; 2023–present); Land Use & Economic Development Committee (2022–2023)) and has served on multiple Seminole County Public Schools advisory committees, including the Public Schools Facilities Planning Committee (2020–2022) and the Alternative Educational System Impact Fee Study Committee (2016–2017).

Justin is married and the proud father of two children. Outside of his professional and public service commitments, he enjoys reading, spending time with his family, volunteering at his children’s school and church, and cheering on the UCF Knights and Florida Gators.
