John Thomas SalmonBiographyJohn Thomas “J.T.” Salmon is a partner in Wicker Smith’s Birmingham, Alabama, office. He is experienced in a variety of practice areas, but the bulk of his practice involves commercial trucking and premises liability litigation. He has been part of the team in Birmingham since it was known under its previous name, Stockham, Cooper & Potts. Following their merger with Wicker Smith in early 2025, J.T. brought the same client service and advocacy he had previously cultivated into his new role. He has represented national insurers, grocery chains, and trucking and freight companies in complex litigation in both state and federal court throughout Alabama and Tennessee. Studious and thoughtful, J.T. is often successful at resolving matters via dispositive motions and has obtained several key summary judgments and case dismissals throughout his career; however, he’s also not afraid to prepare a case for trial if needed. He has sat second chair in a number of high-value trials, and his meticulous preparation has helped to achieve favorable results for his clients each time. J.T. is a graduate of the University of Memphis and the University of Alabama School of Law. Prior to entering into private practice, he worked as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable T. Michael Putnam of the Northern District of Alabama. That immersive experience in the rules and procedures of federal court practice provided J.T. with a wealth of knowledge that informs his practice today. Outside of practicing law, J.T. enjoys spending time with his daughter and cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers.
