Jessica P. WoodBiographyJessica P. Wood is an associate in Wicker Smith’s St. Petersburg Downtown office, where her main areas of practice are medical malpractice and professional liability. Jessica has defended a wide variety of civil litigation matters throughout her legal career, including wrongful death, negligent security, liquor liability, premises liability, and related bodily injury claims, but her current practice is focused on the defense of doctors, specialists, and other allied healthcare providers in negligence and professional liability claims. She is experienced in all facets and phases of medical malpractice litigation from pre-suit through trial and is particularly adept at analyzing potential liability exposure and helping to craft a defense strategy that mitigates potential damages. Jessica is a U.S. Army veteran and served as an EMT-B combat medic, including a deployment to Iraq in 2003 and subsequent Reserve and National Guard service. Throughout her eight years of service, she provided routine and emergency care in the Emergency Medicine, Orthopedic, Prenatal, Trauma ICU, and Burn units. Jessica also spent nearly 13 years as a cytotechnologist and pathologist assistant, performing diagnostic evaluations, quality assurance, and departmental workflow improvements in hospital and laboratory settings. This extensive history in the medical field makes Jessica uniquely qualified to advise and analyze claims of medical liability, and a particularly staunch advocate in the representation of doctors and other healthcare providers. Jessica earned her law degree from Regent University School of Law and has been a member of The Florida Bar since 2020.
