WICKER SMITH CELEBRATES FIVE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF PHOENIX OFFICE
PHOENIX – APRIL 4, 2023 – Civil litigation defense firm, Wicker Smith O’Hara McCoy & Ford P.A., is proud to celebrate the five-year anniversary of our Phoenix office. Affectionately known as “The Cactus League,” Wicker Smith Phoenix opened its doors April 1, 2018, led by shareholder Mandi J. Karvis.
Mandi’s journey to Wicker Smith was a winding one. She was at her previous firm for 14 years, and a partner for many of those years. It was during the defense of a nursing home case in Tucson, Arizona that she met Orlando shareholder Ray Watts, who was brought in as national counsel. Over dinner one evening, Ray mentioned that the firm had previously considered an expansion into Arizona, and Mandi said to keep her in mind if the idea ever came to fruition. A few months later, Mandi received a phone call from Wicker Smith managing partner Dennis O’Hara requesting to meet with her, and shortly after that, Wicker Smith Phoenix was launched.
The office opened with just Mandi and one other attorney. Today they have grown to include five attorneys, and two legal assistants; and they just moved into a new office space, which is twice the size of their previous space. The team focuses mostly on Mandi’s specialty of medical malpractice defense, but handles general liability matters as well. Mandi continues to serve as national counsel in sexual abuse cases all over the country and thus far has tried cases in Tennessee, New York, and California. Mandi has tried several cases with John Floyd, Sr. and John Floyd, Jr. of the Wicker Smith Nashville office, and has several on the docket to be tried in Arizona and elsewhere this year.
Of the firm’s 16 offices, Phoenix is the first one to be led by a woman. Mandi is excited about the growth of her office and the potential she sees for the future. “When I opened the Arizona office five years ago, I had a goal to move into a bigger space by the time the first lease term was up. However, we outgrew the original space before the lease was actually up and I am very happy with the growth and success of the Phoenix office. We will continue to grow responsibly and provide our clients with the great representation that they have come to expect from us over the years.” said Mandi J. Karvis.
Wicker Smith is immensely proud of Mandi and the rest of the Phoenix team. For inquiries about how Wicker Smith can represent your interests in Arizona, Mandi Karvis can be reached at mkarvis@wickersmith.com (direct email). Follow Wicker Smith on LinkedIn for more updates on the firm.
