    Mandi Karvis

Mandi Karvis, a partner in the Wicker Smith Phoenix office, is an experienced trial attorney, with jury trial experience in state and federal courts.  Ms. Karvis has the desire and skill to try cases, but also has the judgment and discretion to know that not every case belongs in the courtroom.  Her practice primarily focuses on handling complex injury cases. Ms. Karvis defends premises liability, products liability, and general personal injury matters that involve catastrophic and/or complex injuries.  Her experience reviewing and understanding medical records is extremely beneficial in evaluating injury claims and deposing treating medical providers. Ms. Karvis assists clients in pre-litigation evaluation of claims in such a manner that allows clients to identify claims that should be resolved prior to the initiation of litigation.  In that capacity, Ms. Karvis also provides risk management advice to clients in an attempt to improve internal policies and procedures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

She regularly defends individual healthcare providers of all specialties as well as hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other types of healthcare providers, such as home health care agencies.  Additionally, Ms. Karvis has extensive experience defending chiropractors and other allied healthcare professionals.  Ms. Karvis also has experience defending against claims brought under the Adult Protective Services Act (APSA) relating to the alleged abuse and neglect of vulnerable adults, including claims of financial exploitation of vulnerable adults by care providers. Ms. Karvis has been retained by several companies to represent their insureds in claims involving inappropriate sexual touching in a professional setting.  She has successfully represented these healthcare providers in jury trials throughout the United States.

In addition to her litigation practice, Ms. Karvis has extensive experience in representing healthcare providers before their respective licensing boards, both with licensing needs and in response to complaints made against them by patients, employers, and insurance companies.  In that capacity, she regularly appears before the Arizona Board of Chiropractic Examiners, Arizona Medical Board, Arizona Board of Osteopathic Examiners, Arizona State Board of Nursing, Arizona State Board of Physical Therapy, and the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners.  She has an excellent working relationship with the various Boards and their staffs and is familiar with their expectations so she can assist clients in meeting those expectations in an effort to avoid or limit license and practice restrictions.

Ms. Karvis has received Martindale Hubbell’s highest AV Preeminent rating.  Additionally, she was recognized as a Southwest Super Lawyer Rising Star from 2012-2017, and as a Super Lawyer in 2018 – 2020.  Ms. Karvis was born and raised in Illinois and has lived in Arizona since 2002.  She lives in Phoenix, with her husband, Ray, who is a college strength and conditioning coach.
