Jacob LiroBiographyJacob J. Liro is a Shareholder in Wicker Smith’s Miami office. His practice includes advising in a variety of matters, with a focus on construction, transportation, premises liability, professional liability and catastrophic injury. Jacob has a long history of experience in the construction industry dating back to childhood, when he grew up in his family’s construction business. This early exposure to builders and business owners gave Jacob a profound appreciation for the intricacies and challenges of the industry. Inspired by his family’s legacy, Jacob pursued a legal career focused on defending the interests of business owners of all varieties. Jacob is keenly aware that litigation against a business can affect someone’s entire livelihood, and he takes his obligation to his clients very seriously. Whether navigating complex regulatory frameworks, resolving contractual disputes, or litigating high-stakes injury cases, Jacob’s approach is the same – to pursue an in-depth analysis at the outset of the case, and make the appropriate recommendation to his client for either early resolution or ongoing litigation and trial. In all cases, Jacob’s goal is to resolve the case as efficiently as possible, and achieve the best possible outcome for his client. Jacob has been instrumental in securing favorable outcomes for his clients in several well-known cases in South Florida in the past ten years, including the Surfside condominium collapse in 2021 and the Miami-Dade College parking garage collapse in 2012. Most recently, he helped to secure a complete defense verdict in a $15 million admitted liability automobile negligence trial in Miami-Dade County. Jacob is a member of the firm’s Transportation practice group and part of the Transportation Rapid Response team. He is admitted to practice in the state of Florida, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. A frequent lecturer, Jacob has given dozens of presentations nationally on topics involving construction litigation, transportation liability, and risk management issues. He is an active member of the international legal fraternity Phi Alpha Delta, as well as the Florida Bar, the American Bar Association, the Miami-Dade County Bar Association, Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, and USLAW NETWORK, Inc. A native of Massachusetts, Jacob graduated from Boston College with a degree in Philosophy in 2003.
