Michael A. Holtmann joined Wicker Smith in 1994 and is a partner in the Miami office. He has successfully tried and defended a variety of cases involving professional liability, premises liability, negligent security, construction defect claims, medical malpractice, insurance contract disputes and bad faith litigation.
In the area of premises liability, Mr. Holtmann has represented various property owners including apartment complexes, hotels, condominium associations, mobile home parks and restaurants in high-end negligent security claims involving shootings, assault and battery, and rape. He has also handled premises cases that deal with drowning in pools and waterways, as well as fire related matters to include wrongful death claims, burn cases and property damage. Additionally, Mr. Holtmann has represented property owners throughout Florida in hurricane related claims and construction cases involving water intrusion issues, defective windows, and roofing cases.
Mr. Holtmann has represented Underwriters at Lloyds of London in a number of high profile insurance contract disputes involving professional athletes and has many years of experience handling coverage cases, declaratory action cases, insurance fraud, disability claims and bad faith claims. In addition, he represents healthcare providers, hospital facilities, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, dentists and allied health professionals in a wide range of complex medical malpractice issues. As a result of his work in medical malpractice, Mr. Holtmann has been an invited guest speaker for numerous risk management seminars to health care providers and insurance companies.
Admitted to practice in the state of Florida in 1993, Mr. Holtmann earned his Juris Doctor from Creighton University that same year. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Iowa in 1984. He is a member of The Florida Bar and the Dade County Bar Association.
Mr. Holtmann is a competitive tennis player and long-time member and supporter of the United States Tennis Association. He is married with a son.
