Michael HoltmannBiographyMichael A. Holtmann joined Wicker Smith in 1994 and is a Shareholder in the Miami office. Throughout his career, he has worked in a variety of practice areas including professional liability, contractual disputes, bad faith litigation and medical malpractice. For the last several years, his practice has almost entirely focused on general liability claims including premises liability, construction litigation and products liability. Michael frequently represents property owners such as apartment complexes, condominium associations, mobile home parks, hotels, and restaurants in complex claims involving catastrophic injury. He is well versed in negligent security claims involving shootings, assault and battery, and rape; aquatic injury cases and drownings in pools and waterways; and fire related matters involving wrongful death claims, burn injuries and property damage. Michael has been a trial lawyer for 30 years, and has tried cases all throughout South Florida. He takes pride in his zealous advocacy and his ability to put his clients at ease throughout the stressful litigation process. Michael is known for his ability to deftly navigate emotional cases and pivot his strategy when necessary to reach a favorable result. Michael represents some of the firm’s largest hospitality clients, and regularly interacts with General Counsels and Risk Managers on a national level. With his guidance, these clients are able to take a broader view of their risk assessment and improve their processes to mitigate their risk in the future. Michael regularly lectures on topics involving pool safety and other risk management issues. Admitted to practice in the state of Florida in 1993, Michael earned his Juris Doctor from Creighton University that same year. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Iowa in 1984. He is a member of The Florida Bar and the Miami-Dade County Bar Association. He is licensed to practice in Federal Court in the Southern District, the Middle District and the Northern District of Florida.
