Wadad BarakatBiographyWadad Barakat is an Associate in the Fort Lauderdale office of Wicker Smith. She focuses her litigation practice in the areas of premises liability, transportation and first party property matters. Ms. Barakat attended Florida International University where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2015. Subsequently, she continued her studies by obtaining her Juris Doctor from St. Thomas University School of Law in 2019. While in law school, Ms. Barakat served as Senior Articles Editor of the St. Thomas Law Review where her Comment, “A Blind Spot in Miranda Rights: Juveniles’ Lack of Understanding Regarding Miranda Language” was selected for publication in the St. Thomas Law Review, Volume 31, Spring Issue. Ms. Barakat also served as a member of the St. Thomas Trial Team, the treasurer of the Cuban American Student Bar Association, and as a research assistant in the admissions office. Her previous experience includes representing medical providers in Personal Injury Protection cases at a local litigation firm. Ms. Barakat is admitted to practice in the State of Florida and is an active member of the Florida Bar. She was born in Barranquilla, Colombia and is fluent in Spanish. Defense Verdict in a Hurricane Irma Claim
The case involved a Hurricane Irma claim for damages to a 27-year-old roof. Plaintiff waited two years to report the loss and the Plaintiff’s pre-trial demand was over $300,000. The jury took 15 minutes to return with a defense verdict.
