Mariela CanoBiographyMariela Cano is an associate in the Miami office of Wicker Smith, where her practice focuses on general liability matters on behalf of retailers, transportation companies, and professionals. Prior to joining Wicker Smith in 2025, Mariela worked for six years at a Miami first-party property and personal injury firm handling plaintiff-side litigation that included property insurance, wrongful death, and medical malpractice matters. For the last year of her tenure there, she served as lead counsel, reviewing complex medical records, conducting and defending expert depositions, and leading cross-functional litigation teams from pre-suit through settlement. Mariela attended college at Florida International University, where she double majored in Political Science and Criminal Justice. She went on to earn her law degree from St. Thomas University School of Law, where she was active in multiple student organizations including the Student Bar Association and Moot Court Honor Society. As part of the Moot Court Honor Society, Mariela competed in the Jerome Prince Memorial Evidence Competition in Brooklyn, New York. She also served as a staff editor for the St. Thomas University Journal of Complex Litigation. She received CALI Book Awards in Criminal Procedure and Real Estate, Development, and Finance, and graduated in 2018. Outside of the office, Mariela is passionate about public service.
