Jamie NakoaBiographyJamie Kainalu Nakoa is an Associate in the Fort Lauderdale office of Wicker Smith where she focuses her practice on premises liability, employment law, aviation, and general negligence matters. Ms. Nakoa handles state and federal court matters from pre-suit investigation through to trial, including drafting pleadings, discovery, discovery motions, dispositive motions, pre-trial and post-verdict motions. Ms. Nakoa has experience handling evidentiary hearings and obtaining multiple dismissals via dispositive motions. She also regularly conducts plaintiff and fact witness depositions and prepares witnesses for trial. Ms. Nakoa actively engages in settlement negotiations, and attends mediations on her cases. She frequently works with expert witnesses regarding causation and damages issues. In 2015, Ms. Nakoa graduated cum laude from Lynchburg College in three years with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a minor in International Relations. Ms. Nakoa graduated summa cum laude from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law where she earned her Juris Doctorate in 2018. While in law school, Ms. Nakoa served as Executive Justice for Academics of the Moot Court Society, Senior Associate for the Nova Law Review, Board Member for the Nova Trial Association, and was recognized by the National Order of Barristers in 2018 for her exceptional skill in trial advocacy, oral advocacy, and brief writing. Additionally, she earned multiple Book Awards throughout law school and was recognized as Best Advocate in both moot court and mock trial competitions. Prior to joining Wicker Smith in 2018, Ms. Nakoa practiced at another Florida firm where she gained experience handling bankruptcy, health law compliance, and commercial litigation matters. Ms. Nakoa is admitted to practice in the State of Florida and is an active member of the Florida Bar and Broward County Bar Association.
