Giovanna (“Gia”) Abreu O’Connor is an associate in Wicker Smith’s Miami office where she focuses her practice on matters involving estate planning, estates, trusts and real estate transactions.
In 2008, Ms. O’Connor earned a Bachelor’s degree with a major in International Relations and a minor in Political Science from Florida International University. She earned her Juris Doctor from Florida International University College of Law in 2011. She was a Dean’s List scholar multiple times throughout her undergraduate and law school career. During law school, Ms. O’Connor interned with the Probate Division of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit in Miami. She also served as a Graduate Assistant to Dr. Stanley Fish, and a Dean’s Fellow to the Assistant Dean of Development.
Prior to joining Wicker Smith in 2018, Ms. O’Connor practiced commercial litigation, estate planning, and probate law at another Miami firm. She currently serves as a supervising attorney at the FIU College of Law Clinic and is a lecturer for FIU Embrace, an organization that promotes health, wellness, and overall functioning for adults with developmental disabilities. Ms. O’Connor served as Adjunct Professor at FIU College of Law, where she taught upper level legal writing.
Ms. O’Connor was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2012. She is an active member of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers and the FIU College of Law Alumni Board. Outside of practicing law, she enjoys volunteer work and yoga. Ms. O’Connor is fluent in Spanish.
